Jinuk- I would suggest that your whole approach related to the geometry and pattern treatment- in relation to the perception of a surface. Terms such as contingent, striated, polar, oriented, laminar (and non-) etc. which give relations between patterns and perceived surfaces would seem to be a possible route forward- Jonathan
